Over recent months, NITL has been collaborating with Life Sciences Ireland, a division of the Irish Exporters Association, on an exciting new supply chain initiative entitled ‘Security of Supply and Patient Safety (SPSS) through Good Distribution Practice (GDP)’. Life Sciences Ireland was established to address supply chain issues in the life sciences industry and to develop and deliver training for the pharmaceutical and medical device industries and service providers in the logistics, transport and storage of medical and health care products.

The SSPS initiative targets the pharmaceutical and medical device industries and also companies supporting those sectors, which form an integral part of Ireland’s exporting success story. Life Sciences Ireland is the lead partner in the initiative, which is being delivered in association with a Welsh enterprise development organisation. The project is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund under the Ireland Wales (INTERREG) Programme 2007-2013.

Dr. Niall Stobie, Life Sciences Ireland Manager, thanked Edward Sweeney of NITL and acknowledged his significant input as a member of the project technical steering committee in the design and production of the on-line training module content for this programme. He stated that “this greatly assisted us in the production of these training modules to a standard that has been acknowledged as leading edge in the field by the Irish Medicines Board and the pharmaceutical and medical devices companies involved at this pilot stage”.

NITL looks forward to working with Dr. Stobie and his colleagues in bringing this work to a successful conclusion.
