The necessary improvements cannot be achieved without properly educated and trained "supply chain professionals".

As part of its regular series of events the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) recently hosted an interesting double (academic/practitioner) presentation on the theme Dynamic Supply Chain Management (SCM) and Logistics Leading the Recovery. The presentations were by Edward Sweeney (Director of Learning at NITL) and Aidan Murphy (MD of Supply Chain at C&C and Vice President of CILT).

Some of NITL’s academic staff recently attended the annual conference of the Logistics Research Network (LRN), which was hosted the Institute for Transport Studies (ITS) at the University of Leeds. ITS is a free-standing academic department of the University of Leeds and part of the Faculty of Environment. Its primary purpose is to advance the understanding of transport activity, operations and use, and to develop skills and best practice among transport professionals and decision-makers.

Dr. Pietro Evangelista has won the James Cooper Memorial Cup for the best PhD on a supply chain management topic in the UK and Ireland. His Doctoral research was carried out at NITL and the Logistics Research Centre (LRC) at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh under the supervision of Edward Sweeney and Prof. Alan McKinnon.
