New Paper on Purchasing Green Transport and Logistics Services

NITL’s ongoing research collaboration with its partners in Sweden and Italy has resulted in a new publication in the journal Small Business. Founded in 1987, this journal aims to disseminate knowledge about all aspects of small business based on a multi-disciplinary approach.

Congratulations to Winners of National Procurement Awards (NPAs)

The National Procurement Awards (NPAs 2012) took place last week before a packed audience of the top echelon of Ireland’s procurement professionals, with the Richard Curran of RTÉ's Dragons Den fame presiding over the awards ceremony. The event takes place annually under the patronage of the Irish Institute of Purchasing and Materials Management (IIPMM).

NITL’s Work Commended at Launch of SCLG (Ireland)

The launch of the Supply Chain & Logistics Group SCLG) Ireland, sponsored by Ulster Bank, was opened by Chairman Dr. Dermot Carey. Dermot’s key message was that he is pleased that SCLG have partnered with NITL on a number of fronts and is fully supportive of their research and educational initiatives. He stated that “the latter represent programmes of the highest standard for our current and future supply chain professionals”.

Saturday November 3rd saw the latest cohort of graduates from NITL’s M.Sc. programmes celebrate an important milestone at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Over 40 individuals graduated with the M.Sc. in Supply Chain Management, representing the largest group of graduates at a single ceremony since NITL’s establishment in 1998.

NITL Welcomes SCLG (Ireland) Launch

NITL recognises the need for a dedicated organisation to support the development of a supply chain community in Ireland. It has long been recognised by leading edge firms across a range of sectors that fragmentation of enterprise processes and data is a major cause of non-value adding activities (NVAs) and waste. The need to replace this fragmentation with a more integrated approach is central to the concept of SCM.

New Executive Masters Participants Commence Studies

Following the largest ever annual intake into its M.Sc. programmes during 2011, NITL last week welcomed the second new cohort of 2012 to the Executive Masters programme in supply chain management (SCM). The new participants are supply chain professionals in a range of Irish and multinational organisations including Diageo, Coca-Cola, Glanbia, the Irish Defence Forces, Tesco and Mylan.

New Full-time Student Cohort Reflects Global Nature of SCM

Over 40 new full-time M.Sc. students recently commenced their studies and completed the first of their nine modules. The module – Introduction to SCM – provided students with an overview of all strategic and operational aspects of the subject. Each component element will be dealt with in more detail in the modules that follow during the 2012/13 academic year.

James Cooper Memorial Cup Awarded to Graham Heaslip

Dr. Graham Heaslip was presented with the prestigious James Cooper Memorial Cup at the recent Logistics Research Network (LRN) conference hosted by Cranfield University. The prize is awarded annually by the CILT in the UK for the best Ph.D. thesis on a supply chain management topic in the UK and Ireland.

NITL Collaborates with the Irish Exporters Association on New Life Sciences Initiative

Over recent months, NITL has been collaborating with Life Sciences Ireland, a division of the Irish Exporters Association, on an exciting new supply chain initiative entitled ‘Security of Supply and Patient Safety (SPSS) through Good Distribution Practice (GDP)’. Life Sciences Ireland was established to address supply chain issues in the life sciences industry and to develop and deliver training for the pharmaceutical and medical device industries and service providers in the logistics, transport and storage of medical and health care products.
