NITL Welcomes SCLG (Ireland) Launch

NITL recognises the need for a dedicated organisation to support the development of a supply chain community in Ireland. It has long been recognised by leading edge firms across a range of sectors that fragmentation of enterprise processes and data is a major cause of non-value adding activities (NVAs) and waste. The need to replace this fragmentation with a more integrated approach is central to the concept of SCM. NITL’s research suggests that while the SCM concept is widely understood and that there are pockets of world-class practice in Ireland, significant room for improvement exists in terms of turning the concept into practice. A community of supply chain “thought leaders” can play an important role in supporting firms to put the necessary principles, methodologies and tools into place. SCLG (Ireland) is ideally placed to facilitate the development of this community as part of its wider international network using the experience and template developed over the last 15 years.

Speaking ahead of the SCLG launch event scheduled for November 15th, NITL Director Edward Sweeney noted that “NITL shares SCLG’s philosophy in relation to the importance of enterprise integration. We also share SCLG’s commitment to working collaboratively with membership-based professional bodies, Government agencies and the SCM academic community. SCLG (Ireland) is ideally positioned to take the lead in establishing a network of supply chain leaders to stimulate and promote the adoption of leading edge practices in all sectors of Irish business. This is vital if the nation’s goal of export-driven economic growth is to become a reality. SCLG’s commitment to research aimed at the development of practical supply chain solutions for Irish firms, as well as its recognition of the importance of business-oriented education and training, is fully in line with our experience and vision”.

NITL wishes SCLG every success as it embarks on this important work and looks forward to lending its support in creating real value for Irish business.
