Logistics Reasearch Network Annual Conference 2010

Some of NITL’s academic staff recently attended the annual conference of the Logistics Research Network (LRN), which was hosted the Institute for Transport Studies (ITS) at the University of Leeds. ITS is a free-standing academic department of the University of Leeds and part of the Faculty of Environment. Its primary purpose is to advance the understanding of transport activity, operations and use, and to develop skills and best practice among transport professionals and decision-makers.

NITL and C&C Double Presentation for CILT

As part of its regular series of events, later this month the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) will host an interesting double (academic/practitioner) presentation on the theme Dynamic Supply Chain Management and Logistics Leading the Recovery.

Ph.D. Graduate Wins Prestigious Memorial Cup

Dr. Pietro Evangelista has won the James Cooper Memorial Cup for the best PhD on a supply chain management topic in the UK and Ireland. His Doctoral research was carried out at NITL and the Logistics Research Centre (LRC) at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh under the supervision of Edward Sweeney and Prof. Alan McKinnon.

An article co-authored by NITL academic staff has been selected for inclusion in the International Journal of Logistics & Transport (IJLT). It is entitled “ICT Innovation Diffusion in Small Logistics Service Providers: An Empirical Survey” by Pietro Evangelista, Edward Sweeney, Emilio Esposito and Claudia Wagner.

NITL Hosts Visit by Finnish Academic

NITL recently hosted a visit by Dr Anasse Bouhlal of Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK) in Finland. TAMK is an internationally-oriented multi-disciplinary university offering higher education in seven fields of study and over 40 degree programmes.

NITL visits Chinese Universities

Since NITL was founded 12 years ago we have actively engaged in collaborative endeavours with both universities and industry worldwide (Europe, the US, Australasia and the Middle East). We firmly believe that without this international exchange of knowledge and ideas it is impossible to achieve excellence in SCM and logistics research and education. This is particularly true given the increasing globalisation of business and the concomitant emergence of more international supply chain configurations.

Martin Christopher Gives Seminar at DIT

Professor Martin Christopher was in Dublin last week to present a seminar at the DIT. His presentation, entitled “Mega-Trends that are Re-Shaping the Supply Chain Landscape” captured many of the organisational and environmental challenges in evidence in today’s global business landscape.
