NITL has been announced as the winner in the Education category at the 2013 Irish Logistics and Transport Awards (ILTAs). This award is for the third level institute which offers the most innovative and relevant courses in the transport and logistics field. The ILTAs are the premier awards programme in the Irish logistics and supply chain arena and are run under the patronage of the Chartered Institute for Logistics and Transport (CILT). The trophies were handed over last night at Dublin’s Burlington Hotel before a packed audience representing the top echelon of Ireland’s supply chain profession, with Richard Curran of RTÉ's Dragons Den fame presiding over the ceremony.

The judging panel commended NITL for its unique combination of academic rigour and real relevance to the evolving requirements of Irish supply chains. They recognised that the Institute’s postgraduate and corporate learning programmes combine the academic excellence of a traditional university with career-focused development for supply chain leadership roles. The academic excellence of NITL’s learning programmes is underpinned by its strong commitment to research and other scholarly activity. Its emphasis on partnership with industry and other stakeholders ensures that its programmes also focus squarely on developing the competencies required in today’s rapidly changing business environment.

Commenting on the award, NITL’s Director of Learning Edward Sweeney noted that “It is widely recognised that transport, logistics and wider SCM expertise is a critical success factor for Irish business. The nation’s open economy and its high dependence on export-driven economic growth, combined with its relative geographic peripherality, mean that graduates with competencies in this field are a vital ingredient in the quest to return to economic growth and prosperity. NITL’s learning programmes will continue to develop these competencies to respond to the new challenges of a global, multicultural, and technologically advanced society in the 21st Century”.

The full list of winners is available at http://www.iltawards.ie/. NITL offers its congratulations to all winners, in particular our colleagues in Boston Scientific (Logistics and Transport Team of the Year) and Diageo (Supply Chain Achievement Award).
